RDC Culture, Quality of Life & Citizenship

rdc_culture_language_citizenship.jpgCharacteristic for the RDC are the following concerns:

1. Civic education, including health education, environmental education and education for sustainable development;

2. Research &  Development projects of (student) teachers, teacher educators and local stakeholders.

3. In various cultural environments over the globe, e.g. Ghana, Mozambique, The Netherlands or Ukraine.

Education in the 21st century aims that we are all culturally sensitive global citizens.  That means that TE increasingly develops education in an international context directed on the enhancement of the quality of ilfe in local cultural settings.  In this way, practional enquiries and communications developed in learning communities with local stakeholders in an international context becomes an important part of the education of teachers in Europe.

Therefore, our RDC initiatives and sustains international research & developmetns projects with (students) teachers on a sustainable and healthy way of life.  The RDC exchanges best (and worst) practices betwen its partcipants, exchanging educational materials and strategies to build continuity via transfer of knowledge to future student teacher generations and local contacts. A hanbook of best practices for students teachers and teachers to set up and sustain such international projects is underdevelopment. Important issues mentioned are a stable continuous educational policy of governments, knowledge of a high level of communication and of collaborative working as well as the maintenance of the body of knowledge in TE. Projects combine affective and effective learning strategies and arts and sciences as basic disciplines.

  • Designing educational means based on the conceptions of pupils’ in The Netherlands and Ukraine

    Posted on: 26 August 2008 by:

    Paper presented at the ATEE conference 2008 in Brussels as a follow up of the keynote speech of Fred Brinkman.

    For the past ten years students of the INHolland university together with teachers, did research on pupils’ and teachers’ perceptions about several aspects of life, health and environment in The Netherlands, Ukraine and Belarus. Based on the research outcomes several educational means have been developed, aiming to make pupils and teachers realize their own conceptions and prejudices, and to change their attitude on issues about health and environment.

    The research questions that are the focus of this paper were:

    - Which conceptions can be found in the relations between boys and girls in The Netherlands and Ukraine?

    - Which of these conceptions can be used in a teaching strategy for effective sexual health education?

    The purpose of the project was to develop a communication strategy in health education based on the own conceptions of pupils, in particular what boys think about girls and what girls think about boys.
