The aim of the conference is to discuss the issues of innovation in education and the challenges educators face making the innovation an integral part of teaching and learning. It will provide an opportunity for academics and practitioners with cross-disciplinary interests to share their ideas on different aspects of education, to bridge the knowledge gap, to promote research excellence and collaboration between academics and practitioners.

Some of the major questions the conference is intended to shed light on are as follows:
- What are the difficulties of implementation and application of educational innovations?
- What can be done to help teachers transform their roles, and to bring about changes in the way educational institutions are run?
- How to ensure that innovation plays a constructive role in improving educational opportunities?
- What is the role of educational innovation in achieving developmental goals?

Klaipeda University, Klaipeda, Lithuania, has the honor to welcome and host the Association for Teacher Education in Europe (ATEE) annual conference 2014. 

Klaipeda University (hereinafter: KU) was established by Decree No.1-640 of the Lithuanian Supreme Soviet on January 1, 1991, on the basis of the divisions of other national higher schools that had functioned in Klaipeda. Currently, KU is the centre of science and culture in the Western Lithuanian Region with the population of 650, 000. The University is administered by the Council and the Senate, and all its activities are organized by Rector, Vice-Rectors, and Rector's Office. To date, the University has seven faculties (of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, the Humanities, Marine Engineering, Arts, Pedagogy, Social Sciences, and Health) and 5 institutes of research and/ or studies employing over 300 teachers and training over 7,000 students. The University implements three cycles of studies: undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral.

The Faculty of Pedagogy implements study programmes in the field of education and training at all three levels: 9 undergraduate, 9 graduate, and 1 non-degree study programme. The PF implements undergraduate study programmes of Educology, Childhood Pedagogy, Psychology, Religious Studies, and Physical Education and Sports, as well as graduate study programmes of Educology, Career Designing, Pedagogy of Physical Education, Pastoral Counselling, Familly Studies, Protection of Children‘s Rights, and Education Management); moreover, doctoral studies of Educology take place. The faculty of pedagogy, Klaipeda University, houses in the central part of the city – in one of most impressive buildings of the seaport. It is well-known in the history of regional education, as professionals in different spheres of upbringing have been trained there for over a century.
Presently over 1000 learners are studying in full-time and part-time study programmes. Lecturers of high qualification, including over 40 of those with doctor’s scientific degree and pedagogical titles of professor or associate professor, are working in 6 departments of the faculty.
