MOFET International Conference - Changing Reality through Education

Startdate
Monday 01 July 2013
Enddate
Thursday 04 July 2013

The conference will be held in the summer of 2013 (July 1-4) under the joint auspices of the Ministry of Education, The David Yellin Academic College of Education, Jerusalem, and The MOFET Institute, Tel Aviv, Israel.
The conference title reflects the public discourse in Israel and the world at large in the wake of demands for social justice and equality. The aim of the conference is to bolster awareness of the role played by good education and excellent teachers in bringing about the desired social change.
The pre-conference (July 1, 2013) and the opening ceremony in the evening will be held at The David Yellin Academic College of Education, which will be celebrating its centenary. On Tuesday and Wednesday (July 2-3, 2013), the conference will take place at The David Yellin Academic College of Education, and on Thursday (July 4, 2013), in addition to the conference sessions, there will be a festive closing ceremony at The MOFET Institute.

The conference will reflect the public discourse in Israel and the world at large in the wake of demands for social justice and equality. This call for social reform is accompanied by a growing awareness of the devaluation in the status of public education and teacher education. Accelerated globalization, fueled by technology and a combination of economic and political forces, all impact on society’s perception of the roles of education and the educator. Extensive reforms and advances in education seek to professionalize those involved in teaching. The resulting challenges facing teacher education, teacher educators, and the teachers themselves, are becoming increasingly complex.
The conference aims to provide a forum for researchers, educators and teacher educators to address these issues.
The conference will focus on the role of education in leading social change, based on the premise that education embodies an unequaled potential for the advancement of the individual and society.

The conference will center around two main themes:
- Educators and their influence on learners
- The interaction between society and education
