European Conference on Joint Programs in Teacher Education

Startdate
Thursday 24 September 2009
Enddate
Friday 25 September 2009

On 24 and 25 September the Joint Programs in Teacher Education Conference will be organized at the Charles University in Prague.

This event is reflecting current international initiatives in Europe to promote cooperation in teacher education. Such cooperation is very interesting, because future teachers can learn from different cultures in Europe, from other pedagogical approaches and teaching methodologies, from different values of education in several cultures and systems. Such cooperation is also challenging and complex, as teacher education is treated differently in European countries within a variety of educational contexts and different levels of governmental influence. Despite these differences, several universities in Europe have started initiatives to establish joint programs in teacher education. Not to educate a “European Teacher”, but to expose future teachers to the richness of the different educational cultures in Europe and to teach them to learn from different didactical and pedagogical approaches. These projects harmonize with the Common European Principles for Teacher Competences and Qualifications of the European Commission.

The conference is organized by the following projects (funded by EU Lifelong Learning Program): SPriTE, ETEPS, EMETT and JoCiTE.
